My name is Jackson, Ive been poking around here for a while and thought that I would share my project that I recently acquired. It is an 84 Toyota single cab short bed SR5. I picked it up for $1000. I was amazed when I saw it because it was equipped with power steering, power windows, cruise tilt, factory sunroof, bucket seats, alloy wheels, and electric antenna. All this but no A/C?

Now that I have begun I bought 4wd fenders, 88-95 2wd front bumper/valance, a "new" bed (old one is for sale for you in my area Carson City NV), dropped spindles, 18 Lexus RX-330 rims (like Seth's old rims), LC Engineering intake, solid rear window, and next month I will be making the voyage to Cando for the upper and lower control arms, front bags and maybe more we'll see.

I have already began to prepare the truck for the front suspension by moving the battery, wiring, radiator overflow, and so on. Also to make more room I removed the power steering and cruise control. These are the only pics I have so far (remove from the Craigslist ad were I found it) and I will try to post more in the near future to show what Ive done.

Here are a few pics I took today not much to look at but it is a good solid base. I picked up this bed from Craigslist, the old owner bought the bed brand new to put on his truck then changed his mind and put a flat bed on his truck so this bed is completely dent free.
Image
Here is a pick of the passenger side cut out awaiting its trip to Cando for some love to the suspension. I think I will still have to do some cutting near the fire wall and upper rail were the fender mounts but I will wait till later to see just how much. The tape is just for mock up, proper clips will be used once I am satisfied. Need to do some alignment work on the front valance also.
Image
Same thing, different angle. You can see most of the wiring has been cleaned up and tucked away.
Image
LC Engineering Intake, that I am going to have to modify to make room when I cut out the driver side inner fenders. I am also going to do a little more wire work in this area and try and clean things up a little more.
Image
And the interior, not really going to mess with any of this till after everything else gets done so for now it will remain.

Today I picked up a Billet Specialties radiator overflow tank (2in. dia. x 13in. length), and a billet battery hold down. I hope to have my new battery bracket welded in this weekend. It will be located closer to the radiator off of the core support.

I got a little more work done. Friday I finished my battery tray relocating the battery closer to the radiator, cut out the driver side inner fender well, and continued with the fun and exciting task of trying to clean up some wiring (which I still have plenty to do). I made new ground wires, power wires for the starter and the power distribution box which is now next to the head light. Still have to fold the pinch on the inner fender well and may have to do some more trimming after Cando does their magic on the front suspension.

Today I swapped all of the dash lights to LEDs. Changed all of the green covered speedo bulbs to blue LED.

I wont have much progress to report on till I get the front suspension done next month at Cando...

If anyone is interested in a good rust free strong running truck it me up. It is in the same state as in the pics above and will come with drop spindles, 2 RE6 bags, and some misc interior exterior parts. Also a spare hood and OEM 4x4 set of fenders. It has the 22re engine, power windows, tilt, LC engineering intake, optima battery with billet mount, and billet overflow reservoir for the radiator. Front fender wells have been removed, wiring relocated, and looks super clean. Ready for you to bag/bodydrop!!!

TRUCK IS NO LONGER FOR SALE!

So its been a while since I posted last. I decided to keep my truck, the only reason I wanted to sell was because I was in the process of buying a house. Thanks to the recent economy prices were alot cheaper so I didnt need to sell after all.

Anyways I havent really done much with it except for lowering it a few inches. Only torsion for now but I am saving my coin for bags. I did have to replace the timing chain cover due to a crack, water pump, and the radiator. Spent alittle time cleaning the motor compartment. Still need to do under the hood! Pretty clean for an 84 though. Ill post some more soon.

So today I am beginning the body drop of the bed only for now. I am going to maintain the stock floor but not the bed sides. So while I am going through this process I will do my best to photo as I go and give a brief description. This is my first time, I have done a ton of research so I am confident I will do this without to many issues. I am also not above constructive criticism so if you see me doing something I shouldn't please feel free to chime in.

So first I removed the inner bed sides (mine are the bolt in ones), the tail gate, and removed the bed from the truck.

Next I placed the bed upside down on jack stands, drilled out the 2 spot welds (1 on each side) that holds the bed sides to the panel behind the cab. Once those were drilled out I ran a piece of tape to mark were I needed to cut to remove the cab panel from the floor of the bed. Once this was cut I unbolted the six bolts (3 per side) that attach the panel to the bed sides and removed the cab panel.

Now that the cab panel is removed now I am removing the mounting tabs that attach the inner bedsides to the bed. I plan on making new bedsides when I am finished. This step is taking a little time because I am grinding them down as I go. I also wanted to say that "so far" I am only using basic tools, nothing fancy. Here are a few pics and I will post more when I get a chance but for now I am off to work (my real job):verdict_in:.

Today I removed the floor from the bed. All I did to do this was make a line around the edge of the floor as close as possible to the bed sides. Once I was happy I cut along the line and removed the floor. After I had the floor out I used my grinder with a flap disc to remove all of the sharp edges and clean things up on the bed sides. I also bolted the front cab panel back on to the bed sides to give it some support and not twist things up while I work on it. I have attached a few pics of what was done today.

These pics show how things looked after I cleaned it up with the flap disc.

Hopefully I will get more done in the next few days and I will continue to post what is being done.

Not much progress done today. I was originally going to keep the stock fender wells but now I am going with custom tubs with the stock floor. I was looking on the net at other trucks with the stock tubs and just felt my bed needed a little something more. Hopefully tomorrow I will get the raised mounts made (7 inches) and trim the bed floor to fit up front near the cab panel.
