okay imma start body working my friends truck as soon as we change the bed, their are some spots wit surface rust and some minor dents here and there.. When u grind out all the parts that has rust what product do I use before applying filler on to treat the bare metal surface... so far imma go with evercoat body filler, as far for the primer maybe an epoxy primer or something that is lighter than that??how about etching primer? give me some tips guys on this!! thanks

You'll have to watch some of the primers, they don't mix well with certain body fillers or top coats. Best thing is to talk to some of the places that sell the stuff or with someone that works with it a lot and see what they recommend.

i was told to apply the body filler over bare metal if possible...just to clean the surface really good with wax and grease remover.

clean, bare metal is key.......try a flap disc to get rid of the rust ..................body filler does not stick to paint(epoxy is the only exception)

when you do rust repair you can take it down with 80grit or a roloc on a 90degree grinder .
there are many ways to do body work.
i used to work at a really good resto shop and we do body work over primer .
like epoxy or DTM
so i would go with primer after the bare metal then bodywork over your primer
i ve always liked DTM cause you can use it for bare metal, high build and sealer .
