My R22 in my 86 yota isn't enough anymore. I did have a 300HP Honda until I totaled it about a week ago now I need to get some speed back. So here is where I stand. My truck, bagged tri-4 link 3/8 lines tucked on 20s is still in the project stage, sitting pretty in primer. But I am getting ready to order an Y2JZ for this baby.

But what do you all think is the better rout, OBD1 or OBD2 therefore I'm looking at a motor from 90-95 or 96-up. I'm thinking OBD1 will give me less problems but a lot less tuning capablities. OBD2 will throw a lot of curve balls when we start talking parameters.

Also I don’t know if I will be able to manage a 5 speed being shifter will be sitting on the rear of the casing causing it to be position past the cab, or close to it (I don’t have the measurements yet) so sounds like the automatic? I really don’t like the idea of that is there another option?

Also if anyone has been through this and would like to share ANY knowledge I will take it all into account when I start.... I'm guessing this motor won’t fit without some firewall cut out, but that’s okay. and I'm not looking to get INSANE HP around 400-450 will be the range however I will probable leave it in stock trim until I get used to the 320HP in this light truck....

i know the 7mgte can fit without cutting, but i'm not sure about the 2jz engine. i think the obdI would be preferable..

well this may be good that I have no feed back because that means no one has done this swap, or at least not many. There is no way I'm going with the MGTE, it's no where near as stout, or even dependable as the JZ GTE. It's goign to be a basic swap, but will the truck's frame handle this power? lol i'll keep those posted who are interested.

Mate, the 7mgte only weakness was the head gasket torque was to low from factory. Over here we replace it with a thicker head gasket, and torque down more and they're fine. You should look into it more. my mate has one making 600hp+.

Also a JZ is not an easy swap there is alot of squeezing and fab to get in between the rails. Goodluck, you must have researched how to do it the easy way.

Please call the motor by the right name its call a 2JZGTE not a Y2J. Don't insult the motor.

I know I'm going with the 7MGTE motor, they can produce enough hp for me especially with a light ass truck. Biggest thing will be hookin at the track. Try these two sites, I gathered quite a bit of info about the swap, and about the motors.
