What is the difference in a 1990 22r 2wd and an '87 22r 4wd. The motors won't swap straight up will they?

yes. block, head timing cover etc should be direct replacement. all the other stuff will have to be reused, just like any motor replacement.

crank and block are the same. use the flywheel that goes with the tranny, 2wd goes w/ 2wd, 4wd goes w/ 4wd.

wrong. 4x4 flywheel is not the same as 2wd. 4x4 is heavier. not the same. they dont have different part numbers just to confuse us...
