This damn truck, I am so fed up with it, here is the problem.

Short version:

I need to know if a auto transmission from a 88 will work in an 84, and if the 88 is a floor shift??? Also I need to know if it does not work, can I just get the linkage from an 88 and swap it into the 84 and get it to work???

Long Version:

I have had tail shaft seal, after tail shaft seal go out on this thing. Replaced the tail housing, and tried again, still leaks. So I took it to a shop and had a new seal professionally installed....still leaks.

So the manager of the shop (friend of mine) tells me its an internal problem, and I need a new/rebuilt transmission. So he calls around and cant find anything under $1300 for a used one and $1400 for a rebuild.

I get ahold of my brother who connects me with some people in El Paso, that supposedly have a used transmission that will fit. I ask my buddy and he says it sounds like a good deal, so I get it shipped here.

He just called me to tell me that it wont fit, after he installs it 90% of the way, because the shift linkage doesnt match up.

can anybody throw me a bone, I bought the truck for $750, and have put $600 in parts and still cant get a damn daily driver out of this POS.

I have found the linkage for a body lift, can I use that and just trim it down, or maybe use that as a template to make one to fit?

well, come to find out 86-88 it is a column shift, so I am either going to have to make my own shift linkage, or change the entire column...
