No reason to run it while the vechicle is in motion, just going to wear the bearing out prematurly! Not to mendtion the current draw,

I don't see current draw, while the vehicle is running(alternator is charging) as a valid negative point. Wear perhaps, current draw whilst in motion, not so much.

The only resron you do not want the fan to come on immediately is because the engine runs it's best at a certain temp. range, hence the use of a thermestat to regulate the flow of coolant. When you get in your truck, crank it up and start heading out, you want the motor to get up to operating temperature as quickly as poosible so that it is running like it was designed to. It won't HURT anything, but I still put an adjustable thermostat on all electric fan installs so I can properly adjust it. I crank it up, watch the temp guage and when it reaches the normal operating temp, I turn the adjuster until the fan kicks on and leave it. Sometimes in the winterm I would bump it down a bit. Advance or Autozone has adjustable switches for around $30-40.

i was looking into doing this too but the fans are kinda expensive. i was looking at flex-a-lite fans (which was probably my problem) and they had a kit for the thermostat that was a prod type that you just stuck between a radiator fin. it was also adjustable but dont know how reliable or accurate they are.

the one i looked at was for 84-88 4runners. when i called them they said the clearance was fine but i measured it out and it was gonna be a close one. a little to close for my comfort. truck action, do you have a model number for yours? have you heard anything about that prod type thermostat? seems like it would be the easiest type to install but if it sucks not sure i wanna rely on it to turn my fan on.

The Spal fan should fit the stock radiator just fine ( stock fan & clutch come off)
The one I ordered #VA18-AP13-59AFan, $160.15 that with shipping, bracket kit & harness kit. If you use another controller you don't need the harness kit $37.45
