My 22R died suddenly and I can't get spark. I replaced the cap, rotor, and pickup coil in the dist. I want to know if anyone else has ditched the factory coil and igniter for an aftermarket performance setup, and if so, how. I'm lucky because it's a carb model and I don't have to worry about a computer or complicated sensors. I just don't want to pay over $300 for a new coil or more for an igniter! I'd appreciate any help I could get.

I'm running an MSD system. Blaster Coil and the smaller box meant for stock to mild 4 bangers through stock to mild V8s. Basically under 350 horsepower. Everything was under $300.
If you can find it cheaper, I can fix it.

Couldn't tell you. I drove the truck stock. The next time I drove it the motor was rebuilt, had the new ignition, a cam, bigger valves, header and full 2 1/4" exhaust. I noticed a big difference, but I can't tell you exactly where it came from. But it do get 23 MPG on average with a lead foot. And I do mostly town driving.
If you can find it cheaper, I can fix it.

This is true. But the bed will be more aerodynamic than a dropoff right after the cab.

I've only run two tanks though it, on 87. I would like to see if 91 makes a difference.
If you can find it cheaper, I can fix it.

more than likely it will run about the same, 91 will burn a little cleaner!
